The 8‑day “Shilp Samagam Mela 2026” held at the major cultural complex in Guwahati concluded, with hundreds of artisans from various states of Northeast India and neighboring countries taking part. The fair was organized in collaboration with the Assam government, the National Handicrafts Development Council, and the local Chamber of Commerce, with the main objective of bringing traditional crafts to market, introducing artisans to new technologies, and promoting regional tourism. At the opening of the fair, the state’s Chief Minister inaugurated it and highlighted the importance of innovation and sustainable development in the craft sector.
The fair showcased a variety of craft techniques such as bamboo, silk, metal, clay, and hand‑embroidery. In special workshops, young artisans received training in design thinking, digital marketing, and e‑commerce, enabling them to compete at national and international levels. Additionally, stalls featuring Assamese folk music, dance, and cuisine provided cultural enjoyment to the audience. Several agreements were reached between traders and import‑export agents, including plans to bring local craft products to large retail networks and online platforms.
