National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi opens significant contemporary art exhibition “Takshanam”

The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi recently inaugurated a significant contemporary art exhibition titled “Takshanam” by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The exhibition showcases more than 250 artworks—including paintings, photography, digital art, and sculptures—from 150 artists across diverse regions, all on a single platform. At the opening ceremony, Minister Shekhawat said that the exhibition brings together the diverse forms of Indian art, offering audiences a fresh perspective, and serves as an important platform for contemporary artists to gain national recognition. He also noted that linking India’s cultural heritage with contemporary expressions would help strengthen our cultural identity at both national and international levels.

“Takshanam” explores the fleeting flow of time and social change, with artists integrating personal experiences, environmental concerns, and technological advancements into their creative expressions. Many of the prominent works displayed have been praised by national and international art critics, injecting new energy into India’s contemporary art landscape. The director of NGMA said that such multidisciplinary exhibitions acquaint museum visitors with diverse art forms and inspire young artists. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with several leading art institutions and private galleries, making it a coordinated effort on the national art stage.

Overall, the “Takshanam” exhibition not only highlights the richness of Indian contemporary art but also promotes cultural dialogue.
