Union Government's Law and Justice State Minister, Arjun Ram Meghwal, chaired the National Tree Plantation Campaign organized at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IIAC) under independent charge, giving new direction to efforts for sustainable environmental protection and combating climate change.

Union Minister of Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal led a large‑scale tree‑planting campaign organized on the campus of the Indian Institute of Agricultural Research (IIAC). Approximately two thousand saplings were planted in the program, with active participation from local farmers, institute scientists, students and volunteers. Minister Meghwal highlighted the importance of tree planting, stating, “Trees not only purify the environment, but also play a crucial role in improving agricultural productivity, conserving water and promoting biodiversity.” He also said that such campaigns will be continuously promoted under the Ministry of Law and Justice to strengthen environmental justice.

The objective of the tree‑planting campaign is to realize the national green target and increase green cover in rural and urban areas. The initiative has received support under the central government’s ‘Green India Mission’, which aims to plant 10 crore trees by 2030. The director of IIAC said that this year the institute specifically selected climate‑resilient species that will help mitigate the effects of drought and extreme temperatures. Additionally, students participating in the program were given workshops on environmental education and sustainable agricultural techniques, thereby expanding environmental awareness among the youth.

Currently, the government is taking several policy measures to reduce the adverse impacts of climate change, including cutting carbon emissions, promoting renewable energy and expanding urban green spaces. In this context, Minister Meghwal’s tree‑planting campaign is regarded as an important step that will not only restore environmental balance but also make a positive contribution to socio‑economic development. Thus, another concrete step has been taken towards India’s sustainable development goals.
