Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will represent India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting in Tajikistan, highlighting India's active role in regional security platforms.

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has confirmed that he will represent India at the upcoming meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State. The meeting is to be held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, where senior policymakers and defence officials of SCO member countries will gather to discuss regional security, counter‑terrorism and economic cooperation. India, which is an observer member of the SCO, has consistently worked to advance its strategic interests on this platform.

By participating in the SCO Council of Heads of State, Rajnath Singh aims to strengthen India’s security interests and explore new opportunities for cooperation within the multilateral framework. In recent years, India has expanded its participation in economic and defence cooperation within the SCO, emphasizing the three pillars of “security, defence and energy”. India’s representation at this meeting demonstrates its commitment to a multipolar security architecture in the post‑Cold War era, as well as being a significant step to further strengthen bilateral relations with Tajikistan.

Experts believe that this meeting will give India an opportunity to further consolidate its strategic position in Central Asia, especially in terms of defence cooperation, border security and joint action against terrorism. Moreover, enhancing India’s role within the SCO will also recognize its responsibility for regional peace and stability. Thus, Rajnath Singh’s visit to Tajikistan has emerged as an important chapter of India’s multi‑layered foreign policy.
