The Uttar Pradesh government today announced the expansion of the “Bharat Taxi” service, which will provide accessible and safe taxi transport in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Prayagraj.

Uttar Pradesh’s transport department today announced, as part of expanding the integrated taxi service “Bharat Taxi,” that the service will be launched not only in Lucknow but also in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj. The aim of this step is to enhance traffic convenience between the state’s major urban centres and provide passengers with a reliable, safe and affordable option. Under the new service, taxi drivers will be registered on a digital platform, making it easier for passengers to book rides via an app or website.

This initiative falls under the state government’s “Smart Mobility” strategy, which aims to make public transport more accessible and environmentally friendly. “Bharat Taxi” was previously run as a pilot in Lucknow, where it received positive feedback from passengers and the passenger satisfaction rate was more than 85 %. Now, with the same framework, service is being launched in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj, which will help more than 10,000 passengers each day reach their destinations on time and safely.

With this expansion, the state transport department has also implemented training programmes for drivers and vehicle inspection standards to ensure passenger safety and comfort. Additionally, the government has announced a plan to increase electric‑vehicle options for taxi fleets, which will promote green transport. Through this step, Uttar Pradesh is taking a significant stride forward in modernising its transport infrastructure and enhancing convenience for citizens.
