In the Second Division of Mandsaur, the District Opium Office organized an awareness session under “Mission Yuva Raksha” to acquaint rural youth with the legal consequences of cultivating opium and alternative livelihood opportunities.

District Opium Office in Mandasor’s Second Division Conducts Comprehensive Awareness Program as Part of “Mission Youth Defense” Initiative

The District Opium Office located in Mandasor’s Second Division recently conducted a comprehensive awareness program as part of the “Mission Youth Defense” initiative. The main objective of the program was to inform the local youth about the adverse effects of opium cultivation, related laws, and opportunities for alternative livelihoods. The program included senior officials from the Opium Control Department, agricultural experts, and social workers, who provided information to participants through presentations, Q&A sessions, and practical demonstrations. The attending youths received detailed information about the legal obligations, fines, and prison sentences associated with opium cultivation, as well as government assistance schemes such as seeds, fertilizers, and training programs.

In recent years, several districts in Madhya Pradesh have reported a resurgence of opium cultivation, leading to social and economic problems. The government has implemented several policies to curb this trend, with “Mission Youth Defense” emerging as a key initiative. This mission specifically focuses on training the youth in rural areas in alternative agriculture, handicrafts, and small industries, guiding them toward legitimate income sources. Under this program, the District Opium Office has also proposed establishing a sustainable support network in collaboration with local panchayats and NGOs, ensuring community participation in preventing opium cultivation in the future.

At the conclusion of the program, the attending youths expressed appreciation for the initiative and demanded similar training and support sessions in the future. Officials stated that the program will be repeated regularly to maintain awareness and provide necessary resources for alternative livelihoods, thereby taking concrete steps toward eradicating opium cultivation from the roots in Mandasor.
