The government-operated Cleanliness Friend Safety and Respect Camp has provided awareness and assistance related to hygiene, safety, and social respect to more than 3.69 lakh citizens in 3,870 urban local bodies, resulting in a notable improvement in the quality of urban life.
The Cleanliness Friend Safety and Respect Camp, run nationwide, has expanded its reach to 3,870 urban local bodies (ULBs) this year and provided direct support to more than 3.69 lakh beneficiaries. This initiative, operated in collaboration with central and state governments under the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Urban Safety Agenda, aims primarily to strengthen standards of cleanliness, public safety, and social respect in urban areas. During the camp, citizens received detailed information on waste management, water conservation, women's safety, child rights, and social inclusion through various workshops, awareness sessions, and practical training programs.
Municipal corporations, municipalities, and development authorities participating in the camp formed volunteer groups at the local level, ensuring continuity in monitoring cleanliness work and implementing safety measures. In particular, safety sessions organized for women and the elderly increased their confidence and helped reduce incidents of harassment in public spaces. Additionally, waste recycling and composting were promoted in cleanliness campaigns with the cooperation of local businesses and NGOs, yielding not only environmental benefits but also economic opportunities.
Most ULBs reported that as a result of this camp, proper waste disposal, improved cleanliness of public spaces, and significant increases in community participation among citizens were observed. Seeing this success, the government plans to add more ULBs to the program in the future and double the number of beneficiaries, thereby establishing higher standards of cleanliness, safety, and social respect in urban India.
