The National Human Rights Commission concluded a two‑day open hearing and camp held in Patna, Bihar, where discussions on violations of human rights took place with state officials, civil society organisations and victims.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) concluded a two‑day open hearing and camp held in Patna this week, aimed at encouraging public discussion on ongoing human rights violations in Bihar and presenting recommendations for solutions. The event was attended by senior state officials, police chiefs, judiciary representatives, as well as human rights activists and families of victims. During the hearing, detailed discussions were held on issues such as riots, police misconduct, gender‑based violence, and the lack of education and health services in rural areas.

The NHRC chairman stated that the primary purpose of the open hearing is “to strengthen dialogue with the public and bring their complaints directly before the commission.” He noted that the commission registered more than 150 complaints during the camp and prepared detailed reports on 30 major cases. The reports include specific recommendations for the state government to improve police training, judicial reforms, and the implementation of social security schemes. At the end of the camp, the commission decided to form a task force that will monitor the implementation of these recommendations over the next three months.

The program received support from the Bihar government and several non‑governmental organisations. The state human rights officer said that such open hearings will promote a sense of “equality, transparency, and accountability.” NHRC representatives assured that the commission will continue to organize similar camps to hear the public’s voice on human rights violations and accelerate judicial and administrative reforms.
