On the initiative of Central Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the first National Saras Mela in Vijayawada will be inaugurated by President Draupadi Murmu.

Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan, has taken the initiative to hold the National Sarus Fair outside Delhi‑NCR, to increase public awareness for the conservation of India’s national bird, the Sarus. This year’s fair has been selected to be held in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, where several wildlife sanctuaries are located close to the Sarus’s natural habitat. The program will be supported by the Forest Department, national environmental agencies, local administration and several non‑governmental organizations. The fair will feature various workshops, exhibitions and interactive sessions on Sarus breeding, habitat conservation, the impacts of climate change and community participation.

President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu is inaugurating the event, reflecting the government’s commitment to biodiversity conservation. Her inaugural speech will address the importance of wildlife conservation, particularly the role of local communities in Sarus protection, and how this initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals. Representatives from the Prime Minister’s Ministry of Environment, the state Forest Minister and several scientists will also be present, presenting the latest research on Sarus migration routes, breeding behavior and challenges arising from climate change.
