India's Prime Minister praised the upcoming Vande Bharat sleeper train on the Bengaluru‑Mumbai route as a significant step in strengthening the country's rail network, which will bring a notable reduction in both travel time and cost between the two megacities.

The Prime Minister described today the Bangalore‑Mumbai Vande Bharat sleeper train as a “major initiative” in the history of Indian Railways. The train showcases India’s first fully‑packaged sleeper version of Vande Bharat, featuring AC sleeper coaches, modern safety systems, and an energy‑efficient bio‑diesel engine. Covering a distance of roughly one thousand kilometres, the aim is to cut travel time on this route by about half to 12‑13 hours, benefiting both commercial and private travelers. The Prime Minister said this initiative will help unite the economic regions of south‑western India, accelerate trade activities, and promote tourism.

The Ministry of Railways plans to launch two to three daily services between Bangalore and Mumbai under this project. By using a modern bio‑diesel engine in the Vande Bharat sleeper train, carbon emissions are reduced while energy efficiency is enhanced. Experts believe this step will help Indian Railways move toward high‑speed and environmentally‑conscious transport. Additionally, operating this train will require upgrades to existing railway infrastructure, such as track improvements and signalling systems, thereby increasing the overall network reliability.

Consumer groups have welcomed this initiative positively, as it not only reduces travel time but also keeps ticket prices at competitive levels. Official information about detailed timetables and the booking process is expected to be released in the coming months.
