The Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow over the death of many citizens in a horrific road accident in Nanded and conveyed condolences to the families of the victims.

In Maharashtra's Nanded district, a road accident on a major national highway caused by the collision of two buses claimed the lives of at least two dozen people, while many others are hospitalized with injuries. Local police and rapidly arriving emergency services carried out large‑scale rescue operations to save passengers trapped at the scene, but the severe collision and fire prevented many from being saved immediately. A large crowd gathered at the accident site, where local officials and physicians were continuously working to stabilize the condition of the injured.

The Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow over this tragic incident, stating that it is an extremely painful moment and that the government’s heartfelt condolences go to all the victims’ families. He said the government will immediately conduct a detailed investigation into the causes of the accident and will enforce accountability strictly. He also emphasized the need to rigorously implement existing regulations to enhance road safety, strengthen vehicle inspections, and make driver training mandatory. The Prime Minister said that a comprehensive national road safety plan is being prepared to prevent such incidents, which includes modernizing safety infrastructure on highways and establishing real‑time monitoring systems.

Several similar accidents have occurred in Nanded recently, raising public concerns about road safety. The government has previously pledged, through amendments to the Road Safety Act, to impose stricter penalties and expedite investigation procedures. Following this accident, the state government has ordered the deployment of additional police forces, tightened traffic control near the accident site, and mandated stringent action against unsafe driving practices. Experts believe that improvements in road infrastructure, vehicle maintenance, and driver awareness programs can largely prevent such tragedies in the future.

This incident signals the need for a reassessment of road safety policy at the national level, where the government must implement swift actions along with long‑term solutions to keep citizens’ lives safe.
