India’s PM Modi Congratulates Brazil’s Lula on Election Victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India officially congratulated Luiz Inácio Lula on his victory in the recent presidential election in Brazil. In statements released through the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister said that Lula’s commitment to social justice, economic development, and environmental protection aligns with the shared values of both countries. He expressed the intention to take bilateral relations between the two nations to new heights, particularly by deepening cooperation in the areas of energy, agriculture, science‑technology, and digital collaboration.

Lula, who is known for giving Brazil an active role on the global stage during his previous two terms, reiterated promises to reduce economic inequality and promote sustainable development in this election. His return highlights the potential to revitalize cooperation among southern countries on the international stage, where India and Brazil are both key players. The two countries have already worked together on various multilateral platforms such as the G20, BRICS, and international climate negotiations.

Prime Minister Modi used the occasion to speak about expanding commercial ties, especially promoting exports of pharmaceuticals, Ayurvedic products, and information‑technology services. He also proposed strengthening cooperation on global challenges such as climate change, clean energy, and health security. Following this congratulatory message, officials from both countries have planned high‑level talks in the coming months, which will give the India‑Brazil partnership a new direction.
