Prime Minister, citing a Sanskrit shloka, underscored the importance of restrained speech, purity of mind, penance, self‑sacrifice, and integrity, thereby conveying a message of restoring national moral values.

Prime Minister cites ancient Sanskrit verse at National Cultural Summit

During the main session of the National Cultural Summit held at the President's House, the Prime Minister quoted an ancient Sanskrit shloka: “वाणी संयमितं मनः शुद्धम् तपः आत्मत्यागः च सत्यनिष्ठा.” The verse means that restraint of words, purity of mind, penance, self‑renunciation, and truthfulness are the pillars of true morality. The Prime Minister explained that this shloka succinctly presents the fundamental ethical principles of Indian civilization and that following these values is essential for the nation's progress in contemporary times. He said that the government is launching new initiatives to integrate these principles into education, public service, and administrative processes, thereby bringing about positive changes in citizens' conduct.

To strengthen the five virtues mentioned in the shloka, the central government has announced several schemes. Special modules are being prepared to reinforce moral education in school curricula, while regular ethical training programmes are being implemented for staff in public departments. Additionally, grants will be provided to youth organisations to encourage the practice of self‑renunciation and truthfulness through social service and voluntary work.
