On the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone for the Pune Metro, the Prime Minister presented his vision on future mobility, economic development, and environmental sustainability, emphasizing a detailed action plan and the importance of public transport at the national level.

At the cornerstone‑laying ceremony for Pune Metro projects, the Prime Minister stated that this initiative represents a significant step toward modernizing urban transport in India. He said, “Our goal is to establish a world‑class public transport system in every major city, providing citizens with fast, safe, and environmentally friendly travel experiences. Pune Metro, which is divided into two main routes—from Pune West to Pune Station and from Pune Station to Pimpri Chowk—will be an integral part of the infrastructure that drives the country’s economic development.”

The Prime Minister added, “The total investment in this project is approximately 200 billion rupees, involving collaboration from the central, state, and private sectors. While adopting the latest technical standards in construction, we are committed to completing the project on schedule. From the cornerstone to operation, this metro will be powered by clean energy sources, integrating solar energy and energy‑saving systems, thereby significantly reducing carbon emissions.” He also emphasized that the metro will create employment, spur real‑estate development, and elevate tourism to new heights. Finally, the Prime Minister called on all relevant agencies to work with cooperation and transparency, saying, “Together, we will build a city where people can travel comfortably without congestion, and this begins with the cornerstone laying of Pune Metro.”

This cornerstone ceremony not only symbolizes progress in infrastructure but also reflects India’s national commitment to prioritizing public transport under its sustainable urban development policy. The initiative is expected to provide Pune residents with a higher standard of living, reduced travel time, and environmental benefits.
