Guwahati to host the 8‑day Shilp Samagam Mela 2026 starting tomorrow, bringing together the creativity of Assam’s traditional artisans and national‑level artists.

The premier craft exhibition venue in Guwahati, the Guwahati City Collection Center, will inaugurate the eight‑day ‘Shilp Samagam Mela 2026’ starting tomorrow. Hundreds of artisans from Assam will showcase their handmade products—such as weaving, earthenware, wood carving and traditional embroidery—at the fair. National‑level artists and designers have also been invited, aiming to bring regional crafts to a wider audience.

The fair is organized under the Assam Government’s ‘Art and Craft Development Scheme’, which aims to provide economic empowerment and cultural identity to local artisans. Over the past five years, Assam’s craft has received national and international recognition during this program, and the 2024 edition attracted approximately 50,000 visitors. For the 2026 edition, organizers expect more than 70,000 people to take part.

In addition to the participating artisans, the fair will feature workshops, live demonstrations and craft education programmes, providing the younger generation with opportunities to learn craft skills. The government has also announced that a dedicated platform will be made available during the fair to assist artisans with marketing and sales support. This initiative is intended to preserve Assam’s rich craft heritage while creating employment opportunities for a new generation of craftsmen.
