An international conference on the propagation of Buddhism in the Himalayan region and beyond was organized by the International Buddhist Confederation in Tawang, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of India and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

Through the joint effort of the Government of India’s Ministry of Culture and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, an international conference on “Buddhism: Propagation in the Himalayan Region and Beyond” was organized by the International Buddhist Confederation in Tawang. The conference discussed the historical, cultural and academic dimensions of Buddhism, as well as highlighted the current spread of Buddhism in the Himalayan region and its future prospects. During the conference, leading Buddhist scholars, political representatives and cultural activists shared their experiences and deliberated on new dimensions of regional cooperation.

The main highlights of the conference included a panel discussion on the historical routes of Buddhism’s spread, a research paper presentation on Buddhism’s contribution to Himalayan culture, and a workshop to strengthen the regional intellectual network. An official of the Ministry of Culture said that such programmes help India’s cultural diversity and spiritual heritage gain recognition at the international level. Representatives of the Arunachal Pradesh government also said that efforts to establish Tawang as a major cultural centre for Buddhism are ongoing and that, through this conference, there are plans to promote regional tourism and academic cooperation.

The successful organization of this conference made it clear that India has a significant contribution to the propagation of Buddhism and cultural dialogue. This step by the International Buddhist Confederation will not only increase mutual understanding among followers of Buddhism, but also give new direction to the cultural richness of the Himalayan region. The programme conveyed the message that regional unity and peace can be strengthened through cultural and spiritual dialogue.
