The Ministry of Textiles, while celebrating Gandhi Jayanti across the country, has launched extensive cleaning operations in public places, government buildings, and textile industry areas under Campaign 6, which will increase awareness of cleanliness.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Ministry of Textiles implemented a comprehensive cleanliness and sanitation program nationwide under “Campaign 6”. The primary aim of this initiative is to create a clean environment in public spaces, government offices, textile production units, and shopping complexes, and to raise citizen awareness about hygiene. The ministry coordinated with various state textile departments, municipal corporations, and partner organizations of sanitation campaigns for this program. Specifically, additional cleaning personnel were deployed in major textile markets, fashion hubs, and export centers, while local volunteer groups were also included in the effort.

Under Campaign 6, cleaning activities were not limited to surface cleaning; they also encompassed waste management, plastic recycling, water conservation measures, and the cleaning of water bodies. The ministry stated that through this campaign, hygiene standards in textile industry workplaces will be elevated, leading not only to improved occupational health but also to higher quality of export‑eligible textiles. The initiative has been aligned with the National Cleanliness Mission, marking another step toward the “Swachh Bharat” goal.

The Ministry of Textiles has also established a system of regular inspections and reporting to measure the program’s impact. In the future, there are plans to run such campaigns annually, linking national celebrations like Gandhi Jayanti with messages of cleanliness and social responsibility to reach a broad population. This initiative will not only strengthen environmental cleanliness but also bring a positive shift toward sustainable development in the textile sector.
