Central government launches a new livestock insurance portal to provide insurance benefits to farmers and livestock owners via digital means, inaugurated by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lallan Singh).

The central government today formally launched the Livestock Insurance Portal through the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Panchayati Raj, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh. This portal will connect the country’s lakh small and medium livestock farmers to insurance services via digital technology, making insurance policy applications, premium payments, and claim processes available entirely online. Prior to the portal’s launch, beneficiaries faced difficulties in many state and central government insurance schemes due to paper‑based procedures, lengthy processes, and lack of information. The new system incorporates API integration, AI‑enabled document verification, and provisions for local assistance through Panchayati Raj institutions, which will also promote digital literacy in rural areas.

The objective of the Livestock Insurance Portal is to broaden insurance coverage and provide economic protection to farmer‑livestock owners against loss of livestock due to natural disasters, disease outbreaks, or other accidental damages. With this initiative, the government has already taken several corrective steps under the National Animal Health Scheme and Livestock Development Programs, and now the portal aims to integrate those reforms to make insurance benefits faster and more transparent. Farmers who register through the portal will not only benefit from speedy claim settlements but will also have access to information on various government subsidies and incentive schemes on a single platform.

This significant step toward digitization in the animal husbandry sector is expected to increase insurance coverage and also help stabilize the rural economy, steering it toward sustainable development. The ministry said that the portal’s functionality will be continuously monitored.
