The Union Public Service Commission has announced the results of the Combined Defence Services Examination (I) 2026, in which a total of 1.85 lakh candidates appeared for the exam and more than 1,800 candidates were selected for various armed forces.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published the final results of the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination (I) 2026 on its official website. In this stage, more than 1.85 lakh candidates appeared for the written exam, including candidates from General, OBC, APSC, SC, ST and Persons with Disabilities categories. The results show that more than 1,800 candidates have been selected for various armed forces—Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and Indian Coast Guard. Selected candidates will be called for the Further Physical Ability Test (FAT) and interview, after which the final appointment process will be completed.

The written examination of the Combined Defence Services Examination (I) includes questions based on general knowledge, science, mathematics, general science, and reasoning, and it is considered the first step toward an officer’s post in the Indian armed forces. The cut‑off marks for this year’s exam were slightly lower than the previous year, raising hopes of selection for many eligible candidates. UPSC also said that transparency and fairness were given the highest priority in the selection process, and the same criteria were followed at all stages.

Becoming an officer in the armed forces is a dream for many young people, and this result has sparked a new wave of hope across the country. Selected candidates will have to prepare for physical ability tests and interviews in the coming months, after which they will be sent to various training institutions where they will receive specific training according to their respective branches. Upon successful completion of this process, the new officers will perform their duties in the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, thereby ensuring their contribution to national security.
