The Indian Air Force has appointed Mehtab Singh Deswal as the Commanding‑in‑Chief (C‑in‑C) of the Eastern Air Command, expected to bring a new direction to regional security and operational readiness.

Indian Air Force Appoints Air Marshal Mehtab Singh Deswal as Commanding‑In‑Chief of Eastern Air Command

The Indian Air Force has assigned Air Marshal Mehtab Singh Deswal, a recipient of the AVSM and VM, the role of Commanding‑In‑Chief of the Eastern Air Command (EAC). The Eastern Air Command, which serves as the strategic security hub for India’s eastern borders, especially those adjoining China, Bangladesh and Myanmar, views this appointment as a significant step. Air Marshal Deswal has held various senior positions throughout his career, including in air operations, training and logistics management, and has repeatedly contributed to enhancing national security.

Now entrusted with the expanded remit of the EAC—air defence, humanitarian assistance and disaster management, and the integration of advanced aerospace technologies—Deswal believes that in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, the EAC must promote continuous training, modernization and inter‑service cooperation. In this regard, he plans to accelerate the deployment of the Indian Air Force’s existing aircraft platforms such as the Rafale, Sukhoi and future stealth aircraft, and to deepen collaboration with the Indian aerospace industry.

With tensions rising along the eastern frontier in recent years, the EAC has conducted numerous strategic exercises and joint operations, contributing to regional stability. Under Air Marshal Deswal’s leadership, the command aims to further refine its rapid‑response capability, adopt new technological capabilities, and accelerate infrastructure development in remote areas.

Experts believe that his extensive experience and strategic vision will enable the EAC to confront future challenges, thereby strengthening both national security and regional peace.
