Railway Board member Ashwini Vaishnav has ordered comprehensive corrective measures to address the shortcomings in safety, technology, and maintenance, aiming to enhance the reliability of Indian Railways and the safety of passengers.

Ashwini Vashnav Highlights Safety, Technical, and Maintenance Deficiencies in Recent High‑Level Meeting

She explained that the frequency of railway accidents and technical failures has increased in recent years, affecting passengers' trust. The root causes of these problems include aging infrastructure, inadequate maintenance protocols, and uneven distribution of modern technical equipment.

Vashnav stated that an integrated approach is essential to address these challenges, with regular inspections, digital monitoring systems, and trained personnel playing key roles.

According to the directives, a real‑time monitoring system will be installed on all major railway lines, enabling continuous assessment of the condition of tracks, signals, and braking systems. Additionally, a national database will be prepared to schedule maintenance tasks, recording the age, usage, and repair history of each piece of equipment.

She also said that alongside adopting new technologies, existing staff will receive advanced training to effectively operate and maintain modern equipment.

After implementation of these measures, a significant improvement in safety standards is expected in the next fiscal year, positioning Indian Railways as a competitive and reliable transportation system on the international stage.
