The Lok Sabha Speaker said in Parliament that change in individuals' lives and improvement in society are possible through the power of books, and emphasized the importance of reading.
The Speaker of the Lok Sabha delivered a clear message during today’s debate that books are not merely repositories of knowledge but powerful instruments for transforming lives and bringing positive change to society. He said, “Books give us new thinking, empathy, and an inclusive outlook, which promote not only personal development but also social harmony.”
With this statement, he highlighted the ongoing literacy and book‑distribution programmes in the country. The Speaker emphasized, in particular, the need to promote the construction of libraries in rural and urban areas and the spread of digital curricula under the “Read India” initiative. He noted that a lack of awareness about education often hinders social progress, while literacy lays the foundation for an empowered civil society.
The Speaker also mentioned that the government has recently increased funding under the “Books and Curriculum” scheme to improve the quality of textbooks in primary and secondary schools. He urged members of Parliament to strengthen support for teachers and libraries working in this direction, so that future generations can chart a new course in the light of knowledge. In this way, the Speaker’s words once again reminded that societal transformation is possible through the illumination of knowledge.
