To assess the progress of the core functions of the Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Conservation Department, Central Minister Mr. C. R. Patil examined the compiled reports and issued guidelines toward new strategies for water security, river rejuvenation and Ganga cleaning.

Central Minister Mr. C.R. Patil conducted a comprehensive review of the major initiatives, projects and programmes of the Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Conservation Department (JRWDC). In this meeting, senior officials of the department, state representatives and experts were invited, where the current phases of the National Water Security Framework, river rejuvenation, water‑conservation and Ganga cleanliness were discussed. The minister particularly highlighted the technological innovations being implemented for water‑crisis management, increase in water‑storage capacity and water‑quality improvement under the National Water Policy. He said that the sustainable use of water resources and the revival of river systems are essential for India’s water security and environmental stability.

The review analysed key projects such as the National River Linking Plan, new dams and water‑complexes for inter‑river water transfer, and the various phases of the “Namami Ganga” programme for flow improvement of the Ganga and urban water management. The minister said that to achieve the 30 percent water‑quality improvement target for the Ganga, additional funding of 15 billion rupees will be secured by 2025 and coordination with state governments will be further strengthened. At the same time, emphasis was placed on accelerating the implementation of rural water‑complexes, water‑source rejuvenation and a digital monitoring system for water‑crisis management.

Minister Patil urged the department to view water security through an integrated approach in the future, increase investment in infrastructure to reduce water‑crisis risk, and involve local communities in water management.
