The Ministry of Agriculture conducted a comprehensive survey of agricultural conditions across various states of the country and ordered specific measures to provide immediate assistance to farmers.

Central Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan today presented a comprehensive review of the current state of the agricultural sector in the country, based on the results of an extensive survey conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture. This review provided a detailed analysis of key aspects such as water resources, crop production, market access, and crop insurance. The ministry said that over the past two years, due to seasonal imbalances, water scarcity and rising input costs, a decline in crop production has been observed in many regions, while production has remained stable in some water‑rich areas. Based on these figures, the government instructed the agricultural departments of various states to prepare special reports and adjust policies according to local needs.

Consequently, the minister ordered several swift measures to provide farmers with timely assistance wherever possible. These include expanding the coverage of crop insurance, maintaining the Minimum Support Price (MSP) at an appropriate level, and ensuring the availability of affordable agricultural credit facilities for small and marginal farmers. In addition, emphasis was placed on rapidly implementing new infrastructure projects for water harvesting and drought management, disseminating market information through digital agriculture platforms, and increasing the number of agricultural technology training centres. The ministry also said that special assistance packages will be prepared in collaboration with state governments, to strengthen production‑based value chains and achieve sustainable increases in farmers' incomes.

A high‑level coordination committee has been formed to monitor the implementation of these directives, comprising the Ministry of Agriculture, state agricultural departments, and relevant financial institutions. The committee has been tasked with regularly presenting progress reports and amending policies as needed. This initiative is expected to bring stability to the agricultural sector and improve the living standards of farmers.
