During a visit to the CPDO (Western region) premises in Mumbai, the DAHD Secretary emphasized the urgent need for modernization of infrastructure in the poultry industry, comprehensive training programs, and stringent biosecurity measures.

The Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Human Development (DAHD) formally visited the Western Region office of the Central Poultry Development Organization (CPDO) in Mumbai today. On this occasion, he highlighted the need to invest in infrastructure, provide technical training, and strengthen bio‑security standards to establish the poultry sector as a key pillar of national food security and rural employment. The Secretary noted that outbreaks of crop‑livestock diseases in recent years have exposed the industry's vulnerability, making the rapid implementation of modern housing, water‑climate control systems, and hygiene protocols essential. He proposed, in collaboration with CPDO, setting up an integrated training platform at the state level to equip small and medium‑scale poultry farmers with the latest management techniques, disease identification, and treatment skills.

CPDO, founded in the 1970s, is a leading institution in India for promoting poultry production, strengthening research and development, and expanding export capacity. The Secretary mentioned that the government has recently launched a dedicated funding scheme for poultry infrastructure, which includes grants for modern bio‑security facilities, energy‑efficient housing, and digital monitoring systems. Under this initiative, several training centers in the Western Region will be equipped with advanced laboratory equipment and online learning modules, enabling farmers to receive timely disease alerts and preventive measures.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Secretary thanked the Director of CPDO and stated that sustained collaboration between DAHD and CPDO will help make India’s poultry production capacity globally competitive. He appealed to all stakeholders to adopt stringent bio‑security standards while achieving the goals of sustainable development and increased farmer incomes.
