The Defence Minister, while discussing the modernization of Indian defence forces at a meeting held in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, reviewed the committee’s work and provided guidance on future strategies.

The Defence Minister inaugurated an important meeting at the historic complex in Jaisalmer, where the Ministry of Defence's advisory committee presented its latest recommendations on the modernisation of the Indian armed forces. The committee, comprising experts on defence policy, technology and capabilities, shared a detailed analysis of the outcomes of equipment upgrades, training programmes and strategic partnerships that took place in the past year.

During the meeting, the minister clarified that India must not only rely on advanced weapon systems to enhance its defence capabilities, but also prioritise indigenous research and development. He stated that integrating new technologies such as artificial intelligence, cyber security and autonomous systems into the Indian defence architecture is essential. The committee chair indicated that more than 40% of equipment are currently under modernisation, and there is a plan to raise this percentage to 60% within the next five years.

In addition, the Defence Minister discussed strategic alliances and international military exercises, saying that coordination with partner nations is indispensable for regional security. He also emphasised that, alongside the modernisation of the armed forces, psychological support programmes must be strengthened to improve the welfare and morale of soldiers. At the close of the meeting, the committee proposed a detailed action plan for the next phase of implementation, which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Defence for approval.
