India’s education system is progressing with new reforms in 2024. Despite a literacy rate reaching 74.4%, disparities between rural and urban areas persist. The government’s new policies aim to improve teaching quality and inclusivity.

Large-scale reforms are being implemented in India's education sector in 2024, aimed at increasing access, quality and inclusivity of education. Under the National Education Policy 2024, 4.5% of GDP is being budgeted for education, increasing investment in educational infrastructure and teacher training. 8 lakh students appeared in this year's National Eligibility Test (NEET-2024), which shows an increase of 12% over 2023.

Despite these improvements, there is still a clear gap in access to education in rural areas. According to the 2023 census, the rural literacy rate is 68%, while in urban areas it reaches 84%. To address this disparity, the government aims to increase the number of rural learning centers by 15%, and also plans to strengthen distance education through digital education platforms.

To prioritize teacher training, a new National Teacher Training Initiative has been launched in 2024, which will train 20,000 teachers focused on digital skills and inclusive teaching methods. The initiative aims to equip teachers with the latest teaching technologies and promote inclusive education in the classroom. Also, there are plans to train 5,000 counselors to strengthen mental health and counseling services in schools.

To improve the literacy rate, the government has set a target of 80% by 2025, under which there is a provision to open 12,000 new primary schools and 5,000 secondary schools. Scholarship and meal programs will be implemented in these schools, especially for female and minority students, to ensure equal opportunities in education.

Along with all the above efforts, the Government of India has set an ambitious target of achieving 90% literacy rate by 2030 considering education as the key pillar of economic growth. To achieve these goals, public-private partnerships are being promoted, which will lead to increased innovation and investment in the education sector. This initiative will not only improve educational outcomes but also contribute to social harmony and economic prosperity.
