Faridabad‑based ESIC Medical College and Hospital recently, under the guidance of an experienced team from the ophthalmology department, successfully performed a cornea transplant operation. This step demonstrates the institution’s commitment to strengthening advanced eye‑care services and providing high‑level treatment to social security beneficiaries. In the operation, the patient’s damaged cornea was replaced with healthy corneal tissue from a donor, giving the patient a gradual prospect of moving toward clear vision.

Cornea transplantation is considered one of the major options for treating eye diseases in India, especially for patients whose cornea has wounds, damage or disease (such as corneal dystrophy, traumatic injury) that have severely affected vision. At the national level, the success rate of such surgery is high, but it requires skilled microsurgeons, advanced operating‑theatre facilities, and proper post‑operative care. ESIC Medical College has developed expertise in ophthalmology over the past few years, including LASIK refractive surgery, management of retinal diseases, and now complex procedures such as cornea transplantation.

This successful operation not only gives hope to the patient for vision restoration, but also serves as an inspiration for many surrounding social‑security beneficiaries. The hospital has announced plans to incorporate this achievement into its training programmes and to intensify awareness campaigns to procure more donor corneas. Thus, ESIC Medical College and Hospital has not only demonstrated medical excellence, but also taken a significant step toward the broader goal of public health.
