The government has launched a new initiative to promote industrial safety and create dignified employment opportunities for workers, aimed at reducing hazardous tasks and providing better career options through skill development.

In recent years, India has seen a significant increase in the number of industrial accidents and workplace injuries. These figures have made it clear to the government that it is essential to reduce occupational risks while providing workers with dignified employment opportunities. In this direction, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has announced a comprehensive plan that includes skill training for employees working in hazardous industries, strengthening health and safety standards, and provision of alternative employment options.

Under the plan, more than 100,000 workers will be enrolled in free or subsidised training programmes on a priority basis. These programmes will focus specifically on high‑risk sectors such as mining, construction, chemical processing and metallurgy. After training, participants will receive nationally recognised certificates and detailed career guidance along with employment guarantees. Additionally, enterprises will be offered tax incentives and grants to reduce hazardous work and promote the use of automation and safety equipment.

Industry leaders and trade union representatives welcomed the initiative, saying it will not only safeguard workers' lives but also boost productivity economically. Experts believe that shifting away from hazardous work towards dignified employment will ensure long‑term social and economic stability, improve workers' income levels, and significantly reduce health problems at the workplace.
