Historic achievement: PM Modi’s pledge became reality, 11 crore farmers received the protective shield of Farmer ID.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has taken a historic step by issuing Farmer IDs (FI) to 11 crore farmers. This identification card is mandatory for delivering agricultural loans, subsidies, grants and other government scheme benefits directly to bank accounts. Under the Farmer ID, a farmer receives a unique digital identification number, making the tracking of their agricultural produce and financial assistance easier.

The initiative was launched in 2018 under the “Krishi Digital India” scheme, but it had not been fully implemented by 2026. Now, through the Farmer ID, farmers will receive transparency and timeliness in the benefits of government schemes. This will not only lower interest rates on agricultural loans, but also eliminate unnecessary delays in grant distribution. The government’s Agriculture Secretary said, “This identification system will not only deliver benefits directly to farmers but also enhance their financial literacy and digital inclusion.”

The clear objective behind this step is farmer welfare and improvement of agricultural production. With the Farmer ID, farmers will be able to maintain better records of their agricultural activities, increasing their engagement with agricultural science and technology. Moreover, farmers will now have access to information on crop insurance, loans and other financial products through their digital profile. This initiative will empower farmers economically while also contributing to the overall productivity of the agricultural sector.
