India and the Netherlands Discuss Strengthening Agricultural Cooperation

Representatives from the agriculture ministries of India and the Netherlands recently met in a joint workshop, where both countries agreed on several strategic steps to further strengthen agricultural cooperation. The Netherlands, a world leader in agricultural technology and precision farming, proposed sharing advanced hydroponic systems, smart irrigation solutions, and data‑driven decision‑making tools for Indian farmers. Meanwhile, the Indian side highlighted its vast agricultural land, diverse climate, and large‑scale production capacity, and discussed establishing joint research centres with the Netherlands and new trade frameworks to facilitate the export‑import of agricultural products between the two countries.

During the talks, both parties also discussed developing climate‑adapted crop varieties, promoting organic farming, and joint training programmes to ensure food security. A collaborative agreement was reached between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Wageningen University in the Netherlands, under which researchers will have opportunities for mutual exchange programmes and joint projects. Additionally, both countries agreed on the possibility of building digital platforms and logistics networks to strengthen the agricultural supply chain.

These steps are expected to increase agricultural production efficiency in India, while opening new markets and investment opportunities for the Netherlands. This bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector will give a new dimension to the economic and technological ties between the two countries, and is expected to make a significant contribution to achieving global food‑security goals.
