The Indian Navy ship Trishul participated in the 24th edition of the maritime exercise Varn, jointly organized with France, giving new direction to maritime cooperation and joint security capabilities between the two countries.

In the 24th edition of the bilateral maritime exercise “Varun” between India and France, the Indian Navy ship Trishul played a leading role. The exercise, held annually under a strategic partnership between the two navies, took place in the southwestern Indian Ocean and surrounding waters. Trishul participated in complex maritime operations, emergency response, and joint tactical drills with the French Navy, thereby enhancing coordination and tactical understanding between the two forces.

This year’s exercise placed particular emphasis on anti‑submarine detection, combined submarine and surface warfare, and maritime emergency rescue. Trishul conducted coordinated tactical drills with French vessels, improving the maritime defensive capabilities of both countries. During the exercise, maritime patrols, intelligence sharing, and joint maritime mapping were also included, contributing to greater transparency and trust in regional maritime security.

Senior officials from both countries highlighted the success of the exercise. The Chief of the Indian Navy said that exercises such as “Varun” strengthen India’s maritime security framework while also reinforcing a deeper strategic partnership with France. A representative of the French Navy also noted that the exercise serves as an important platform for enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation between the two forces.

In the future, both countries plan to conduct more joint exercises to safeguard mutual interests in the maritime domain, thereby strengthening regional peace and stability.
