At the opening ceremony of IPRD‑2026 held in New Delhi, the Government of India pledged to strengthen international cooperation in the field of science and technology and to apply research outcomes in South Asia and the broader Asia‑Pacific region.
In New Delhi this week, the inauguration of IPRD‑2026 (International Program for Research and Development 2026) was attended by India’s Minister of Science and Technology, leading international scientists, and representatives of regional partner countries. At the opening ceremony, highlighting the direction of science policy, it was stated that the main aim of this initiative is to convert innovation into practical solutions and share them at the regional level. Under this programme, over the next five years, a total investment of 2,500 million dollars will fund more than 150 joint research projects, the establishment of two international laboratories, and the provision of mobile labs for young scientists.
In the past two decades, India has made remarkable progress in science and technology, especially in quantum computing, medical biotechnology, and sustainable energy. IPRD‑2026 will provide a platform to link these achievements with regional challenges—such as climate change, energy security, and public health. The main partner countries in the programme include Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates, which will strengthen shared data platforms and technology exchange through their respective national research institutions.
Experts believe that the successful implementation of IPRD‑2026 will not only accelerate the dissemination of scientific knowledge, but also open new possibilities for economic development and social inclusion. The multilateral research network established through this initiative will not only increase the pace of innovation, but also strengthen regional stability and collaborative geopolitics. In this way, India reaffirms its commitment to turning science into a bridge for regional cooperation.
