At the major Tibetan Buddhist center Tawang Monastery, more than 21,000 devotees gathered to perform a special worship honoring the sacred relics of Shakyamuni Buddha, highlighting the importance of India‑Tibet cultural relations.

Tawang Monastery in the north-eastern part of Armenia, considered one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in the world, this week hosted a massive gathering to pay homage to the sacred relics of Shakyamuni Buddha. About 21,000 devotees, including local Buddhist monks, Indian tourists and representatives of the Tibetan diaspora, gathered at the main gate of the monastery to mark the occasion. The ceremony began with the chief priest offering sacred incense and flowers, followed by consecration, chanting and prayer sessions. The attendees expressed deep reverence after seeing the remains of Shakyamuni Buddha, reiterating the message of peace, unity and humanity.

The event was held as part of the annual Buddhist festival of Tawang Monastery with the aim of reestablishing the basic principles of Buddhism and strengthening Buddhist culture. Over the years the monastery has hosted many international Buddhist conferences and cultural exchange programs, promoting religious and cultural cooperation between India and Tibet. Experts believe that such large-crowded worship not only highlights the spiritual spirit of the Buddhist community, but also reinforces regional peace and social harmony.

It was further said that special security measures as well as environmental protection provisions have been implemented to safeguard the remains of Shakyamuni Buddha. The local administration also made arrangements for traffic control, medical aid and emergency services to smoothly handle this huge crowd. Thus, this tribute ceremony organized at Tawang Monastery not only re-establishes the spiritual values of Buddhism but also provides a new direction to the cultural bonds of India-Tibet.
