On the occasion of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti, the Prime Minister honored his literary and moral contributions, announcing new initiatives for the preservation and development of Indian culture.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted citizens across the country on the occasion of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti and called for remembering the contributions of this great poet‑founder. He said that Valmiki not only authored the Ramayana, but also established a solid foundation of human values, morality and social harmony. On this occasion the Prime Minister reiterated the government schemes underway for the preservation of Indian literature and linguistic diversity, such as the “Language Preservation Mission” and the “Literary Enrichment Initiative,” and said that through these programmes it is essential to acquaint the younger generation with ancient scriptures.

The government has currently launched a National Digital Library project to make Valmiki’s verses and teachings available on digital platforms, with the aim of ensuring easy access for educational institutions and the general public. Under this initiative, various editions of Valmiki’s Ramayana, their commentaries and translations will be made available online. In addition, the Ministry of Culture has, in collaboration with several state governments, pledged to organize cultural programmes, literary competitions and educational workshops on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, so that the fundamental principles of Indian civilization can be conveyed to the new generation.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Valmiki’s teachings can serve as a guide in confronting today’s social and economic challenges. He urged all citizens to adopt the principles of truth, non‑violence and duty‑bound conduct in their daily lives, thereby strengthening the nation’s progress and social unity. Thus, Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti is not only a commemorative event, but has also emerged as a source of new energy for national unity, cultural revival and education.
