New Delhi – The Prime Minister today extended official best wishes to the Indian team preparing for the Asian Para Games 2026 at a special ceremony held at the headquarters of the National Sports Institute (SIS). The ceremony was attended by the President of the Paralympic Committee of India, heads of various sports federations, and the coaches and trainers of more than 150 athletes set to compete in the 2026 Asian Para Games. The Prime Minister said, “Our Paralympic athletes are not only overcoming physical challenges but also enhancing India’s prestige on the international stage. Their dedication and resolve inspire people from all sections of the nation.” He appealed to the athletes to compete with “true sporting spirit, discipline and national pride” and said the government is providing every possible facility for their training, infrastructure and medical support.
The Asian Para Games 2026, to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, will see more than 5,000 athletes from over 40 countries. India won 15 and 24 medals respectively in the previous Asian Para Games (2018, 2022), raising expectations for a better performance this time. The Ministry of Sports said that the Indian contingent has already strengthened its preparation by participating in more than 30 international competitions, and athletes have been given comprehensive support through new technical facilities, medical assistance and psychological counseling. At the close, the Prime Minister urged all athletes to “aim for your best performance to elevate the nation’s honor” and expressed his desire to “see the Indian flag flying high in Japan.” With this backing, the Indian Paralympic team looks forward to new achievements at the Asian Para Games 2026.
