Revenue Intelligence Directorate takes action against gold smuggling on India‑Bangladesh border; seizes over 8.3 kilograms of foreign gold; arrests 4 people

Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) recently, while foiling a gold smuggling racket on the India‑Bangladesh border, seized more than 8.3 kilograms of foreign gold and arrested four suspects. This operation, conducted under coordination between border security forces and revenue agencies, is part of the government's continuous efforts to curb rising smuggling activities at the border.

In this action, the DRI deployed a special team during a border patrol, which discovered a stash of gold hidden inside an unauthorized cross‑border truck. The estimated value of the seized gold is in crores of rupees, reflecting the economic loss from the illegal trade. The four arrested individuals have been charged with gold smuggling as well as illegal transport of cash and other valuable items.

After this operation, the Border Security Department said it will further strengthen surveillance on the border and increase the use of technology and human resources to prevent illegal smuggling. The government also announced that, in addition to imposing strict punishments in such cases, international cooperation will be reinforced to dismantle the illegal networks used for smuggling. This step is being regarded as a significant contribution to India's broader efforts to improve border security and curb illegal trade.
