The National Environmental Monitoring Agency CQM, while discussing the current state of dust pollution with major Delhi government agencies, expressed agreement to adopt new strategies for improving air quality.

SCQM (Sustainable Environment Quality Assurance Mandal) convened a meeting today with major Delhi government agencies — the Department of Environment and Climate Change, the Department of Transport, and the Department of Urban Development. The main purpose of this meeting is to review Delhi’s dust pollution and make existing measures to reduce air pollution more effective. SCQM chief Dr. R. Sharma said that during the past year the amount of dust increased by 18 percent, which is raising health risks in urban areas.

In the meeting SCQM presented a data‑based report, which indicated that 60 percent of road dust particles come from vehicle tire wear and construction activities. In response, the Delhi government has recently launched the “Small Aerobic Tire Repair” programme and the “Construction Site Covering” initiative. SCQM suggested new guidelines to broaden these initiatives, such as using sand covers along with green fences at construction sites, and expanding electric buses in public transport.

Finally, both sides agreed on an action plan that includes expanding a real‑time sensor network for dust monitoring in the next quarter and launching awareness programmes for citizens to protect themselves from dust. The SCQM vice‑president said, “Our goal is to make Delhi a clean and healthy city, where dust levels are in line with global standards.” This meeting is expected to bring concrete improvements to Delhi’s air quality and have a positive impact on citizens’ health.
