To prevent potential disruptions to air travel caused by increasing fog in the upcoming winter season, the Ministry of Civil Aviation held its first coordination meeting with major agencies, with special emphasis on minimizing passenger inconvenience.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation organized its first high‑level meeting to address the challenges posed by fog in the upcoming winter season. Representatives from the Indian Air Traffic Control (ATC) centre, the management bodies of major airports, the Meteorological Department, and the Indian Aeronautics Institute participated in the meeting. The main objective was to forecast potential disruptions to flight operations caused by fog and to develop a comprehensive action plan to minimize them. The ministry noted that in the past few winters, fog had caused delays and cancellations in landings and take‑offs at several major airports, resulting in passenger inconvenience and economic losses.

Several technical and operational measures were agreed upon. The Meteorological Department proposed increasing the use of radar and satellite data for accurate fog forecasting, while ATC directed the rapid installation of advanced Instrument Landing System (ILS) and automated valleying systems. Additional budget was allocated to major airports to upgrade runway lighting, tomographic systems, and visual error indicators. Moreover, a decision was made to strengthen mobile applications and airline call centres to provide passengers with real‑time flight status information. The ministry also said that alternative traffic patterns and landing sequences would be implemented at all airports during fog.
