India's tax administration announced Special Campaign‑6 to be conducted in October, under which the Customs and Central Excise Department (CBIC) and its regional units will take comprehensive measures to curb tax evasion, customs fraud, and promote legitimate trade.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has completed preparations for the special Campaign‑6 that will be implemented in the coming month. This campaign is being launched with the aim of making the country’s trade environment transparent, preventing violations of customs regulations, and increasing tax revenue. Under this initiative, all regional units will work together to identify, assess, and inspect high‑risk import‑export transactions. Special focus will be placed on electronic equipment, chemical substances, and luxury goods, as these sectors have often seen valuation discrepancies and attempts to evade customs duties.

Key points of Campaign‑6 include the use of digital data analytics, strengthening risk‑based selection processes, and inter‑departmental cooperation. CBIC said that through new technological platforms and automated monitoring systems, real‑time transaction scrutiny will be possible, making it easier to immediately curb potential violations. Additionally, comprehensive training programmes and a helpline will be established to raise traders’ awareness of the importance of regulatory compliance.

Special campaigns conducted in previous years have demonstrated a notable reduction in tax evasion and an increase in revenue, and this time it is also expected that Campaign‑6 will improve transparency and efficiency in the import‑export sector. Experts believe that if this initiative is successfully implemented, it will not only strengthen the government treasury but also create a reliable environment for legitimate traders, thereby further strengthening India’s position in global trade competitiveness.
