Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal urged Telangana to leverage global trade agreements, which could boost the state's export capacity and attract greater investment.

Central Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal recently, during a meeting with the Telangana Industry and Commerce Minister and major trade associations, called for the state to maximize the benefits of free trade agreements (FTAs). The minister said that many of India’s major FTAs — including India‑USA, India‑UK, India‑Indonesia, and India‑South Korea — not only provide lower duties and fewer barriers for exports, but also create an attractive business environment for foreign investors.

Telangana’s economy, which is primarily based on automotive, pharma, technology and agricultural products, can benefit especially from these agreements. The minister mentioned that for the state’s key export products — such as auto parts, pharmaceutical raw material, and digital software services — zero or lower duty rates are available under these FTAs. In addition, simplification of trade regulations and transparency of customs procedures will save exporters both time and cost.

The minister also emphasized that to effectively use FTAs, the state government must improve export incentive schemes, and organize special training and information‑dissemination programmes for exporters. He also said that the Central Commerce Ministry will assist in these efforts and guide export companies in preparing products that meet international standards. With this call, Telangana’s trade sector may gain new opportunities to enhance its competitiveness in the global market.
