Central Information Technology and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnav activated the Semicon 2.0 portal and selected 12 eligible companies for grants for electronics component manufacturing, thereby taking a significant step towards strengthening India’s indigenous electronics supply chain.
Central Minister of Information Technology and Electronics, Shri Ashwini Vashnav, today officially launched the Semicon 2.0 web application portal, which was developed with the aim of accelerating electronics component manufacturing and providing investors with an integrated digital platform. This portal operates all stages—application, evaluation, approval, and grant distribution—of the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) online, thereby increasing transparency and timeliness in the process. Industry representatives, startup founders, and state government officials attended the launch ceremony, welcoming the initiative as crucial for achieving India’s electronics production targets.
Through Semicon 2.0, the government has approved 12 companies to boost self-reliance in electronics component manufacturing, comprising a mix of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and large manufacturers. These companies will receive incentives, loan guarantees, and technical support totaling ₹1,200 crore in the next financial year. The selected enterprises have presented detailed plans to produce key components such as antennas, circuit boards, power modules, and sensors, which will help meet demand in mobile, automotive, industrial, and defense sectors.
Currently, India’s dependence on electronics imports is about 70 %, and the government aims to bring it below 40 % by 2030. In this direction, the Semicon 2.0 portal and the financial assistance, technical training, and cluster development programs under ECMS are integral parts of the strategy to establish India as a global electronics manufacturing hub. Experts believe that if the selected 12 companies achieve production capacity on time, this initiative will significantly strengthen India’s supply chain and contribute to job creation.
