At the Agriculture Building in New Delhi, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan held an extensive discussion with representatives of major farmer organisations from across the country on the proposed Seed Bill, during which various perspectives on seed quality, price and farmers' income security were heard.

In a high‑level forum held at the Agriculture Building in New Delhi, Central Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan presented the key provisions of the proposed Seed Bill and engaged in detailed dialogue with top leaders of major farmer organisations from across the country. The forum included representatives of the Indian Farmers' Congress, National Farmers' Forum, and several state‑level farmer unions. The minister explained that the main objective of the bill is to strengthen seed quality standards, provide affordable and certified seeds to small and marginal farmers, and increase transparency in the seed market. He also said that the government will keep strict oversight to encourage innovation in seed production while ensuring seed companies work in the interests of farmers.

During the dialogue, farmer representatives expressed concerns about rising seed prices, monopolies of private companies, and unequal access for small farmers. Many leaders also said that sudden increases in seed costs could adversely affect farmers' income, so they need a proper pricing mechanism and guarantee of subsidies. Regarding these issues, the minister said the government will establish a National Pricing Committee to control seed prices and implement a digital tracking system in seed distribution, thereby increasing transparency.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed that detailed public consultations would continue before finalising the proposed Seed Bill. The government said that a comprehensive public hearing on seed policy will be held in the coming months, giving all stakeholders an opportunity to voice their views. Through this process, the aim is to shape the seed law in line with farmers' real needs, ensuring stability in agricultural production and improvement in farmers' income.
