Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal led a think‑tank with industrialists and policymakers to accelerate the digitisation of trade, discussing e‑documentation, an integrated digital platform, and the simplification of customs procedures.

Ministry of Commerce and Industry Presents Key Guidelines to Strengthen Trade Digitalization

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, at a recently held national‑level reflection camp, had Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal present key directives to strengthen the digitalization of trade. At the forum, industry representatives, startup founders, digital solution providers and customs officials participated and openly discussed the capabilities and challenges of the current digital infrastructure. The minister said that widespread use of digital technologies will not only accelerate cross‑border trade but also make small and medium enterprises (SMEs) competitive in the global market. He emphasized the plan to make the existing Digital Trade Portal more user‑friendly, and to implement measures such as real‑time data exchange, integrated electronic billing and automated customs clearance.

The major proposals presented at the camp include expanding the Single Window System nationwide, making electronic invoicing (e‑Invoice) mandatory, and incorporating an AI‑based risk assessment module into customs procedures. These initiatives are expected to reduce paperwork, cut processing time by 30‑40 percent, and improve transparency. The minister also highlighted that prioritizing cybersecurity and data protection is essential for the successful implementation of digital platforms, and the process of establishing a national standard in this direction is being accelerated.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has also previously “Make in India”.
