On Sunday, the operational force of Drug Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized a large consignment of 137 kg of crystal meth at a coastal port in Tamil Nadu and arrested four major smugglers. The operation is being regarded as a significant step against the coastal drug smuggling network.

Drug Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized a large consignment of 137 kg crystal meth during a coordinated operation at a major port in Tamil Nadu. During the operation, DRI agents conducted an in‑depth investigation of the smugglers' activities by analysing the ship's cargo documents and tracking data. The seized drug was described as high‑purity crystal meth, which is in extremely high demand in the illicit drug market of South India.

With this operation, four key members of the smuggling network were arrested. Officials say these arrests are a significant step toward dismantling the coastal smuggling web. The head of DRI said the network had been importing illegal drugs from source countries in Southeast Asia for several years, using a secure route through the port for smuggling. After the arrests, police have launched a detailed investigation to identify other members of the network and their contacts.

Experts believe that operations like this will strengthen control over coastal smuggling and help slow the illegal trade in narcotics in South India. DRI also clarified that similar intelligence‑driven and coordinated actions are planned for the future, to maintain continuous pressure against illegal drug trafficking.
