In order to strengthen India's naval and commercial shipbuilding, Foreign Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal introduced Korean industry representatives to potential investment and partnership opportunities in the Indian market during his visit to Korea.

**Foreign Minister S. Sonowal Presents Growing Shipbuilding Opportunities in India to Korean Industry Leaders**

Foreign Minister S. Sonowal, while touring Korea’s major industrial hubs, presented the expanding shipbuilding opportunities in India to key representatives of the Korean shipbuilding industry. This move is part of India’s broader strategic plan under the ‘Make in India’ initiative to attract foreign investment in the maritime sector and boost domestic production capacity. India has recently announced a plan to expand its maritime security and commercial fleet, which will include naval vessels, oil tankers, container ships, and specialized maritime equipment. Korean companies possess cutting‑edge technology, a skilled workforce, and a reliable supply chain that align with India’s objectives.

Mr. Sonowal said that this collaboration is a significant milestone for deepening trade relations between the two countries. He discussed potential joint ventures, technology transfer, and training programmes that would help Indian shipbuilders produce to Korean standards. In addition, both parties pledged favourable policies, tax incentives, and infrastructure support for Korean investors in India. This initiative will not only enhance India’s naval capabilities but also create jobs, drive technological advancement, and strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations.

Considering the prospects of this new partnership with Korea, the Indian government has formed a working group for further negotiations, which will define a detailed project plan, financial model, and regulatory framework. Experts believe that a successful collaboration will give India a competitive position in the global shipbuilding market, while Korean companies will gain entry into a rapidly growing Indian market.
