To promote compliance with environmental regulations and economic efficiency, ECL, under “Special Campaign 6,” earned a notable revenue of 2.21 crore rupees from scrap disposal, which is considered a significant step in the company’s sustainable development strategy.

Eastern Coal Fields Limited (ECL), a public sector undertaking under the National Coal Corporation, recently earned revenue of 2.21 crore rupees through a scrap disposal programme operated as part of ‘Special Campaign 6’. This campaign is the sixth phase of four major environmental initiatives that the company has been implementing since 2020, whose primary objective is to meet environmental obligations by systematically collecting, recycling, and properly disposing of industrial waste, especially scrap. Under this campaign, ECL handed over accumulated scrap from its various mining and industrial sites to certified recycling companies, resulting not only in a reduction of waste volume but also generating economic benefits through the recovery of reusable metals and materials.

The 2.21 crore rupees obtained from scrap disposal will be reinvested by the company in two key areas of its operations. First, modernization of air‑purification and water‑treatment facilities in mining zones to ensure compliance with environmental standards. Second, it will be used for new training programmes and the purchase of equipment for worker safety and health, thereby improving workplace safety levels. Environmental experts and industry associations have praised this initiative, as it demonstrates that the public sector undertaking values economic profit and socio‑environmental responsibility equally.

ECL’s management indicated that similar special campaigns will continue to be undertaken in the future.
