In a high-level meeting held in Mumbai, a detailed assessment of the progress of Self‑Help Group‑Bank linkage and individual enterprise financing under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) was conducted, and future strategies were discussed.

The high‑level review meeting of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) held in Mumbai was chaired by the Union Minister for Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan. The forum included officials from the central, state and local levels, financial institutions, and representatives of Self‑Help Groups (SHGs). The main purpose of the meeting was to assess comprehensively the current status of SHG‑bank linkages, the effectiveness of financial instruments available to individual enterprises, and the mission’s outcome‑oriented results. According to the presented data, SHG‑bank linkages increased by 12 percent in the last financial year, while the volume of loans disbursed to individual enterprises rose by 18 percent. Despite this progress, unequal loan outreach in rural areas, banks’ risk criteria, and insufficient technical support for women entrepreneurs were identified as major challenges.

After discussion, consensus was reached on several strategic measures. First, the digital platform will be expanded to strengthen SHG‑bank linkages, making the loan application process faster and more transparent. Second, a dedicated micro‑credit scheme for individual enterprise financing will be launched, giving priority to women entrepreneurs and mandating technical training. Third, an integrated dashboard will be established at the state level to reinforce the monitoring mechanism, enabling real‑time tracking of progress.

In closing, Minister Chauhan stated that the goal of the National Rural Livelihood Mission is poverty eradication and sustainable income generation, and that these new initiatives will accelerate economic empowerment in rural India. He appealed for cooperation from all stakeholders and emphasized that continuous monitoring and timely corrective actions will be the key to the mission’s success.
