HAL, NCF and ASI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the conservation of heritage sites, digital archiving and sustainable development, which will accelerate the implementation of technology‑based conservation measures.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), National Culture Fund (NCF) and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) have signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the conservation and development of heritage sites. The main objective of this collaboration is to apply HAL’s aerospace technology, such as drone‑based surveys, 3‑D scanning and structural analysis, to the protection of historic monuments managed by ASI. In addition, NCF will provide financial support to the initiative, strengthening digital documentation, restoration work and community participation.

Under the MoU, the initial phase will involve technical surveys of major national heritage sites such as Ajanta‑Ellora, Khajuraho and the temples of Kanchipuram. Using high‑resolution imaging and data‑analysis tools developed by HAL, the structural stability of these sites will be assessed, enabling prediction of potential damage and timely repair work. ASI experts will integrate this technical data with traditional conservation methods to prevent recurrence in the protected areas.

The National Culture Fund has said that this collaboration will not only strengthen the protection of cultural heritage but also promote digital tourism, giving new momentum to local economies. There are plans to extend this partnership to other historic regions in the future, linking India’s cultural heritage with modern technology to ensure its sustainable defence.
