Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the availability of rare and strategic minerals plays a decisive role in strengthening India's energy self‑reliance, industrial development, and national security.

Chief Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, stated in a recent speech that a sufficient supply of critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, graphite, rare‑earth metals, and tantalum is essential for India’s energy security. A shortage of these minerals could hinder the development of renewable energy, electric vehicles, and advanced defense systems. In this regard, the government has taken several steps to strengthen the national mineral policy, accelerate exploration, and attract private investment, including streamlining the mining licence process, forging international partnerships for technical cooperation, and establishing indigenous processing units.

India has currently launched several strategic initiatives, such as the introduction of a digital platform for mineral exploration, the construction of mineral refining plants under a public‑private partnership model, and the expansion of foreign partnerships to enhance supply‑chain resilience. These measures aim not only to reduce dependence on imports but also to make domestic industries globally competitive. Experts believe that if these policies are implemented effectively, India could achieve a significant reduction in mineral imports over the next decade, thereby stabilizing energy costs and boosting confidence in defense capabilities. The government has pledged continuous monitoring and policy adjustments to ensure long‑term benefits for both India’s industrial competitiveness and national security.
